About Rugby Relief? Rugby Relief was established by SpikedTurkey Rugby and Irish Rugby Tours, Christian Stemmet and George Hook, directors of both companies. In partnership to deliver Development Rugby Tours to South Africa, we felt that more needed to be done so that not just the inbound tour to SA can benefit but also those less fortunate in the areas that will be visited. We encourage all our groups that travel to SA to become a part of Rugby Relief’s efforts in any way they would like. Why Rugby Relief? Rugby Relief will bring vital financial and equipment support to Communities in the Klein Karoo region of the Southern Cape, South Africa. We have identified local rugby communities that have little if any infrastructure and or equipment. As an Oudtshoorn native it pains me and us that children and older players cannot enjoy our wonderful game of rugby due to extreme poverty and or lack of access to facilities and equipment. What are our goals? Rugby Relief’s goals are to help one community at a time through our partnership with Local Government, Oudtshoorn Town Council and the SWD Rugby Union. The Council and Local Government have put in place their Infrastructural Development Plan (IDP). Funding from the council will be made available as part of this regeneration project. Touring groups will be given the opportunity to either contribute financially directly to the IDP or donate vital rugby equipment to identified communities. Each touring group decides how they would like to become part of Rugby Relief and we make suggestions as to how best to help contribute to our efforts. |
